![]() The Lost Valley still feels full of secrets. The new textures made this cog blend totally into the background - I had Anniversary's version of The Lost Valley in my head while running over the bridge, and so I was surprised to encounter what looked like a dead end. The plants are all newly textured, although the T Rex itself looks about the same as I remember. The water is still green though, very different from the original pale blue.Ĭombat is getting smoother now that I'm using backflips and side-flips. It's harder to do that on the iPad, so backflipping it is, for now. When I replay the old games on my computer, I use combinations of jumps and rolls, angling my jumps to zig-zag away from enemies. ![]() I have been using back- and side-flips to get away from enemies while firing on them, a strategy I used when I was beginning to play Tomb Raider years ago. Combat on the iPad has been making me reevaluate my approach. Hopefully I'll be able to handle the slicer-dicer-mashers in Greece and Egypt better by the time I get there. With Lara leaping ahead with just a tap of the forward button, it was hard to get through the swinging blades. I was reminded just how bloody Tomb Raider can be. Didn't fall once going up the stairs on either side of the temple, either! The textures are dramatically clear - the skulls, which I'd always thought of as carved, now look like they're from a horror movie.Ĭolors and design are dramatic. They add a touch of humanity to the cavernous city. The animal skins and woven tables and chairs were always some of my favorite details. I also find myself using roll and the walk button much more frequently than I did for the original game. I fell off the bridges once, and missed the super-easy timed door on my first attempt, but the controls are getting easier. After that, just the image appears in the middle of the screen.įunny glitch - Lara's hair binding changes when she's shooting. When Lara picks up objects, the first time she finds them their name appears. The original version was obviously an Aztec image, so maybe this is an improvement (although it still looks suspiciously like Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec war god, rather than anything Inca). Redone wall texture for one of the secret chambers. No electric green foliage - which I kind of miss. The Caves felt nostalgic from the beginning, like always, but the new textures are treats along the way. No Visa stamps either - which seems unlikely. Lara's passport has been updated with more information (and a decidedly Crystal Dynamics take on Lara's original biography). I'm excited to complete this game all over again and see how the later levels have been done. ![]() Haven't figured out a way to swan dive or do a handstand. This should save a lot of tapping the icon over and over, which is what I did at first.Ĥ. For menu navigation, hitting the words "Save Game" or "Load Game" selects that option. The jump button needs to be pressed before, not simultaneously with, the direction buttons.ģ. Lara moves forward too fast, and has some difficulty turning, but I was moving smoothly after two play-throughs of Lara's Home.Ģ. The water looks brackish though - was it always that green?ġ. The objects here are again very nicely redone. I haven't tried any of the other "Options" yet, but will soon. it's amazing - no more holding grab for shimmying. The photo above is with the "Auto Grab" function turned on. The paintings are similar to the Mac version of TR2 which improved the textures for Lara's Home, but basically stopped improvements for the later levels. Lara's home in the original TR1 has some of the sketchiest textures, but they've all been cleaned up here. The image in the polaroid photo is taken from TR3. Tomb Raider iOS has lots of updated textures and many new details.
